The Takeout, the popular national foodie digital publication, has named Golden Age Wine the best wine bar in Alabama.

If you haven’t grabbed a glass here yet, now’s your sign.

Golden Age Wine Birmingham earns praise from The Takeout

Located in downtown Birmingham and Mountain Brook, Golden Age Wine is known for its vast collection of wines, delectable charcuterie boards and relaxed atmosphere.

This isn’t the first time Golden Age Wine has turned heads nationally. In 2022, the Mountain Brook spot, which is a combined bottle shop and bar, was a James Beard Award for Outstanding Wine Program semifinalist.

For folks unfamiliar with the James Beard Awards, the annual award is often called the Oscars of the food world.

Mountain Brook Mayor Graham Smith is pretty proud, too

“We are so proud to have Golden Age Wine named best wine bar in the state! Brandon (Brandon Loper) and Trent (Trent Stewart) have built a strong business centered on curated wines that you don’t see everywhere, a trendy aesthetic and sleek interior and warm customer service. We see how they won this important honor and are proud to have them as part of the fabric of Mountain Brook.” — Mayor Graham Smith, Mountain Brook

Where to find Golden Age Wine in Birmingham

In addition to the original Mountain Brook location at 2828 Culver Rd. Mountain Brook, AL 35223, Golden Age Wine opened its second spot, a wine garden, in downtown Birmingham in 2024.

Golden Age Wine has also been called the best wine bar in Alabama by several other foodie publications including, Mashed, Tasting Table and Veranda.
