Black Belt Birding Festival becomes first official “Black Belt Signature Event”

The annual Alabama Black Belt Birding Festival has officially been recognized as the first “Black Belt Signature Event” by the Alabama Black Belt Adventures Association.
The festival plays a large role in promoting the region through:

- Conservation
- Education
- Economic development

As attendance continues to set new records and attract more out-of-state birding enthusiasts each year, the festival’s economic impact continues to grow while introducing visitors to the exceptional birding opportunities and rich natural and cultural heritage that define Alabama’s Black Belt.”

The organization announced the news during the festival’s kickoff event in Greensboro as Swanner presented a $5,000 grant to Alabama Audubon to support the festival.
What is the Black Belt Birding Festival?
The sixth annual Black Belt Birding Festival returns July 31-August 2, 2026 in Greensboro. It celebrates the birds, history and heritage of Alabama’s Black Belt region—one of the most biodiverse and culturally significant areas in the country.
Birders of all ages and abilities are invited to join Alabama Audubon for an unforgettable weekend in Alabama’s Black Belt. Explore historic sites, working farms and diverse habitats while learning about the birds, landscapes and stories that make this region unique.

What makes it a Black Belt Signature Event?
The Black Belt Signature Event initiative is part of ALBBAA’s ongoing effort to recognize and support festivals that showcase the unique natural, cultural, culinary and outdoor experiences found throughout Alabama’s 23-county Black Belt region.
The grant program provides funding for festivals, events and destination development projects that demonstrate broad visitor appeal, measurable tourism impact and meaningful contributions to the area’s economy and heritage.
