Crimson Tide fans didn’t have to wait too long to find out who would take over as head football coach after Nick Saban announced his retirement Wednesday. Kalen DeBoer, according to ESPN, “has agreed to a deal to become the next head coach at Alabama”—Bama’s first new head coach in 17 years.

DeBoer comes to the Capstone from the University of Washington, where he compiled a 25-3 record.

What this coaching change means for the Crimson Tide

Speculation surrounding which coaches would stay on the Alabama staff and which current players would stick around has taken over social media and sports commentary the last 48 hours.

When Saban announced his retirement, one of Alabama’s most celebrated recruits, 5-star receiver Ryan Williams, decommitted from the Tide.

Players were asked to wait 72 hours after the announcement by Saban to decide whether or not they would stay with the program.

The NCAA Transfer Portal provides 30 days after a coaching change for players to find another team.
