The city of Dothan has officially started construction at the future site of a new community center.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday morning with several local and state officials on site to celebrate the occasion.
“This exciting milestone represents a major investment in our people and our future. We are especially grateful to Senator Tommy Tuberville for being part of this special moment and for his continued support of our community.
“We look forward to seeing this space come to life as a place where connections are made, opportunities grow, and memories are created for generations to come.”

The new facility will be on the campus of the Wiregrass Public Safety Center. This multi-purpose facility will be used for meetings of up to 600 people and will be available for public use by reservation.
The city credits Sen. Tommy Tuberville for assisting with the funding of this project, getting $7.75 million in federal funds. The city will name the community center’s auditorium after Tuberville’s father, Charles R. Tuberville Jr.
“Senator Tuberville played a large role in securing the funds for this building. As a part of our appreciation we are naming the auditorium after his father who was a decorated WWII veteran.”

The total project cost will be approximately $10-$11 million, with the rest of the funding coming from the city.
