Dothan’s successful downtown cleanup program, trails and city center plan

Just in time for Earth Month, the city of Dothan held its “Love Your Downtown Clean-Up Day” on April 6th.
16.2 tons of debris removed
Here are the eye-popping results from the City of Dothan’s Weekly Update for April 12th.
During Saturday’s Love Your Downtown Clean-Up Program, the following amount of waste and debris was collected:
- 16.2 tons of debris removed from work area
- 30 cubic yards of tires picked up
- 1100 lbs. of e-waste received
- 250 gallons of paint received
- 1000 lbs. of paper waste for destruction
- 3 car batteries
- 25 lbs. of household cleaners and pesticides
Additional Dothan green programs
In addition to the clean-ups, Dothan has several environmental programs and amenities.
For example, the Wiregrass town of 71,000+ has been a Tree City U.S.A. for about 34 years.
It is also home to the Forever Wild Trails, a 400-acre preserve within the city limits of Dothan with 14+ miles of trails
The community is also home to Landmark Park, a group dedicated to preserving the cultural and natural history of the Wiregrass region.
Why it matters
Along with its green initiatives, Dothan has launched a comprehensive city center revitalization plan that includes a major renovation and expansion of its Opera House and the future development of a Wiregrass Innovation Center and new municipal buildings.
