Downtown Prattville’s iconic landmark, “The Gin Shop”, is getting a revamp. Say hello to The Mill, a $37M revitalization project bringing modern living spaces to a historic location.
About Prattville
Did you know Prattville has a strong industrial history? It’s true. In 1839, New Englander Daniel Pratt founded the town with a vision to create a place that reflected his New Hampshire heritage.
Located along the banks of Autauga Creek, Prattville became a hub for cotton gins, a cotton spinning plant, lumberyard, foundry and other industries. Known to locals as “The Gin Shop”, these historic masonry structures have continued to stand as an iconic landmark in the city.
“The Gin Shop” project
Currently, “The Gin Shop” is in the midst of a $37M revitalization project by Evolve Communities LLC—and it’s turning heads.
Called The Mill, the project brings 127 loft-style apartments to the former Daniel Pratt cotton gin complex.
The new living space features historic vibes with modern conveniences. Amenities include a common area with fitness room, package delivery room and more, while many original architectural components of the building were incorporated into the new design. Some include exposed brick walls, wooden support beams and oversized windows.
Created with a pedestrian-friendly design in mind, residents of The Mill have easy assess to downtown Prattville’s shops and eateries, plus are only a quick drive to downtown Montgomery.
According to the Montgomery Advertiser, The Mill is currently under construction with plans to begin renting in February 2023.
