Last February, the University of Alabama announced plans to build a new facility for fashion retailing and apparel design concentrations—the Drummond Lyon Hall. Just over a year and a half later, they’re welcoming students in to learn all things fashion in a cutting-edge environment. Here’s what you need to know.

The College of Human + Environmental Sciences (CHES) at the University of Alabama, which includes Adams and Doster Halls, just expanded its campus footprint. Drummond Lyon Hall, located on Colonial Drive near Bryant-Denny Stadium, is a 25,000-square-foot facility for fashion and design students, featuring:

  • The Fashion Archive historical garment and textiles collection
  • Conservation laboratory
  • Exhibition galleries
  • Two cutting-edge studio classrooms
  • Flex space for receptions or lectures
  • Offices for fashion retailing + apparel design faculty

To construct the new hall, $4 million in charitable gifts was raised. The building is named after Terri Drummond Lyon, who is an alumnus of the University of Alabama, for her commitment.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to provide our students with the best resources and facilities to create their pathway to success in fashion and design.

It is my honor to be one among many who are answering the call to support CHES and the University, and to help bring their vision for the future of the apparel and textiles program from conception to reality.”
