After months of campaigning and anticipation, Election Day 2024 has finally arrived in Alabama. Most of us know more than we’d care to about the presidential election by now but Alabama voters will also have a number of other races and issues on their ballot this year.

Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s election if you’re voting in Alabama.

When to vote

Tuesday, November 5, 2024 is election day in Alabama. All polling places across the state open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

Where to vote

Registered voters can find their polling place at the Alabama Secretary of State’s website.

What’s on the ballot for Alabama voters?

In addition to the presidential election, Alabama voters will also be voting for several Congressional, statewide, and local positions as well as one statewide ballot initiative. You can find a sample ballot for your county here.

President

Alabama ballots will feature five candidates for President of the United States:

  • Democrat Kamala Harris
  • Republican Donald Trump
  • Independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
  • Libertarian Chase Oliver
  • The Green Party’s Jill Stein

U.S. House of Representatives

All seven Congressional seats in Alabama will be up for election but four of those races feature just one candidate running unopposed. The three districts that feature multiple candidates on the ballot are:

  • District 2: Republican Caroleene Dobson vs. Democrat Shomari Figures
  • District 6: Republican Gary Palmer vs. Democrat Elizabeth Anderson
  • District 7: Democrat Terri Sewell vs. Republican Robin Litaker

State Courts

Alabama voters will be voting for a new Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court, with Republican Sarah Stewart and Democrat Greg Griffin contending for the position.

Three seats on the State Supreme Court are also up for election but candidates for all three seats are running unopposed. The same is true for three seats on the Criminal Court of Appeals, with all candidates running unopposed.

Statewide Offices

Four seats on the State Board of Education are up for election this year along with the President of the Public Service Commission. The current holder of the latter office, Twinkle Cavanaugh, is running for the seat unopposed.

Statewide Amendment

Alabama voters will vote on a single constitutional amendment this year. The amendment would allow the Franklin County School System to sell some of the land it owns in Walker and Fayette counties. The move is aimed at creating economic development in the area.

Other Races

Check the sample ballot for your county to see what other local races may appear on the ballot in your area.
