At 5PM on Tuesday, July 8, Eli Manning took to Toomer’s Corner in Auburn with one goal in mind: to set the Guinness World Record of toilet paper thrown at Toomer’s trees.

The former New York Giants + Ole Miss quarterback, who was filming an episode of his new ESPN+ show “Eli’s Places,” was joined by former Auburn quarterbacks Patrick + Bo Nix.

Although the tree-rolling officially began at 5PM, fans were encouraged to arrive 30 minutes early. Waiting for the early-birds was a performance by the Auburn Cheer Team, as well as appearances by Aubie + a War Eagle

By the time the clock struck 5, hundreds had gathered in the summer heat at Toomer’s Corner, armed to the teeth with rolls of toilet paper. Boxes of free toilet paper lay scattered throughout the crowd for the taking — 3,000 rolls in total.

When Manning, hosting from atop a raised platform, announced it time to launch the paper, the crowd took to throwing rolls every which way: at the trees, at each other, at the Nixes, at Manning, at Aubie.

In attempts to get the perfect throw, kids were perched on parents’ shoulders + Auburn students climbed the brick wall.

As Manning declared time, trees + ground alike were covered in a white sheen of paper — what some deem the snow of the South. As the crowd quieted down, one enthusiastic fan yelled, “We love you Bo Nix!”, leading fans to cheer for the returned hero.

Rogue rolls continued to soar overhead as award-winning author + Auburn history professor Keith S. Hébert joined the hosts onstage. In his hand was a proclamation issued by Alabama Governor Kay Ivey.

“On this day, July 8, 2025 — a remarkable and spirited gathering — Auburn University students, faculty, alumni and fans, joined by Eli Manning, Bo Nix, Patrick Nix, successfully united in Alabama’s most iconic campus tradition, reached a historic milestone by rolling more than 7,125 rolls of toilet paper onto the Auburn oaks at Toomer’s Corner in Auburn, Alabama. In accordance with all available records, these individuals achieved what was previously undone by any other persons in history. Accordingly, I recognize and affirm this moment as the official world-record for the highest number of toilet paper rolls ever rolled on the two oak trees during a single event.”

The number 7,125 was an estimate pulled from the amount of toilet paper distributed by the event, paired with the number estimated to have been brought by fans.

Longtime Auburn fan + local Richard Spencer described the event as overwhelming — in a good way.

“There were a lot of people, a lot of toilet paper, setting the world-record. It’s pretty phenomenal to be here. I’ve been here to several Toomer’s rollings and this one is pretty phenomenal.”
