Enterprise celebrated the reopening of its local YMCA this week while marking a milestone on a new childcare facility for the community.
Earlier this month, the city broke ground on the new building which hopes to expand access to childcare and youth development services for families across the Wiregrass.
Under an agreement approved earlier this year, the City will contribute up to $600,000 toward construction of the new facility, which will provide approximately 4,200 square feet of space dedicated to childcare and youth development for up to 60 children.
“Safe, affordable and high-quality childcare is not simply a service for the families who use it. It supports working parents. It supports workforce participation. It supports early childhood development. And it contributes to the economic vitality and quality of life of our city.”

Enterprise YMCA celebrates groundbreaking at new facility

Cooper joined other community and YMCA leaders at the groundbreaking Tuesday, Oct. 6. The new facility will be constructed on the YMCA’s existing Enterprise campus and will be owned and operated by the YMCA.
The new childcare facility is being developed in partnership with the City of Enterprise and Paths for Success. Once complete, the space will provide additional capacity for childcare and youth development services while complementing the YMCA’s broader family-focused programming.
“The YMCA has always been about bringing people together to strengthen families and communities. When there is a need in a community, partnerships like this allow us to come together and create something that is greater than any one organization could accomplish alone.”

Enterprise YMCA reopens with major upgrades

The groundbreaking coincided with the reopening of the local YMCA facility which has seen plenty of changes in the last two years.
The Enterprise Family YMCA has served the Enterprise community since 1970, providing generations of families with opportunities in sports, swimming, childcare, fitness, friendships and community.
In August 2025, the Enterprise YMCA became part of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery, connecting the local organization with the resources and experience of a larger YMCA association while maintaining its local presence.
The YMCA has recently invested around $1.35 million at the local facility and its future, including improvements to the basketball gym and new equipment in the fitness center.
“When you plant a tree, you know that it takes time to grow. You may plant it knowing that someone else will one day enjoy its shade. That is the nature of community. We build things today that we may not personally benefit from tomorrow, because we know that the people who come after us will.”
William Cooper Sr., Enterprise mayor
