Expect delays on I-65: Night resurfacing and bridge repair in North Alabama
Reading time: 2 minutes

Expect some major slowdowns on I-65 between Cullman and Decatur beginning this pre-Independence Day weekend.
Here is the info via the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT).
Resurfacing north of Cullman to Decatur at night
Traveling at night on I-65 between Alabama’s two biggest cities Birmingham and Huntsville? You may want to set aside some extra travel time and check current road conditions at ALGOtraffic.com.
According to ALDOT, work began this week to resurface I-65, a 23.4-mile stretch of I-65 from Hurricane Creek, north of Vinemont, in Cullman County to about a mile south of Exit 340 at I-565.
Motorists are advised to expect lane closures from 6PM to 6AM Sunday nights through Thursday nights/Friday mornings.
This is not a small project. It is expected to last until late 2026.
More slowdowns – Priceville Bridge work
Over the Independence Day holiday there will be a major bridge repair on I-65 at Priceville.
The girders of the Upper River Road bridge were damaged April 29 when they were struck by a piece of equipment improperly loaded on a trailer.
If you are traveling on I-65 in that area from June 28, beginning at 7PM to July 2nd at 6AM — expect delays.
The contractor will work around the clock during this time frame to repair the Upper River Road overpass bridge.
“While it’s unfortunate that the need for the bridge repair arose, we’re trying to make the best of a difficult situation by limiting the lane closure to a tight timeframe during days of the week when I-65 historically has lower traffic volumes.
We’re doing what we can to make drivers aware of the strong likelihood of delays for southbound traffic and help them make the best decisions. Plan additional travel time, consider using alternate routes, and check algotraffic.com before you go.”
