Coming soon: Flying Creek Nature Preserve
Locals have long pondered what would become of the 72-acre parcel of land between Veterans Boulevard and Fly Creek. It wasn’t until a 2022 grant from the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act that city officials were able to make the idea of a nature preserve a reality.
Current design plans emphasize city leadership’s commitment to preserving outdoor nature spaces for residents and visitors, with features like:
- Multi-use nature trails, including a connection to the Eastern Shore Trail
- Outdoor classroom
- Bicycle repair station
- New restroom pavilion
Developers are leaving their options open to later expand the preserve, adding things like kayak launches and additional trails.
