FIRST LOOK: Alabama introducing new videoboard at Coleman Coliseum

It may not be the new arena some Alabama fans are hoping for but a major upgrade will be seen at Coleman Coliseum for the upcoming gymnastics and basketball seasons.
Alabama Athletics Director Greg Byrne previously posted about work on a new videoboard along with an upgraded sound system to enhance the fan experience at the arena.

On Tuesday, Sep. 15, Byrne shared a photo of the new videoboard. The photo showed this week’s Monday Night Football game on the screen with a space at the bottom that is similar to the previous board which showed game stats.
History of Coleman Coliseum
The arena first opened in 1968 as Memorial Coliseum before taking on its current name in 1988. Coleman Coliseum was named in honor of Jefferson Jackson “Jeff” Coleman, a longtime Crimson Tide historian, business manager and alumni director, who served on the committee that oversaw the Coliseum’s planning and construction.
Over the last six decades, the venue has hosted:
- Men’s + women’s basketball
- Gymnastics
- Volleyball
- Concerts
- Graduation ceremonies
The previous videoboard was installed in 2009, costing $2 million and featuring a 9-foot by 13-foot screen on all four sides. Those screens were also used for the 2024 Final Four watch party.
The university has not released details on the exact dimensions or cost of the new videoboard.
