Foley getting new public library + park
The city of Foley, nestled between Magnolia Springs and Gulf Shores, is getting some upgrades in the coming months. Keep reading for details on the new Foley Public Library and Mills Community Park.
The new Foley Public Library
In December, the City of Foley shared that plans for the new public library are moving forward. Here’s what’s in store:
- 40,000 square-foot, 2-story facility (approximately double the current library’s size)
- Includes meeting space, auditorium, computer labs, study rooms, cafe + bookstore
- Set to begin construction in early 2024, open in 2025
- Located next to Foley Dog Park, south of Post Office
The library, which celebrated its 100th birthday last March, is going to be even more of a staple in the community with the big move.
“We want an iconic building that, when people drive by, they see it and they want to go there and it becomes a gathering place, a community place.
We don’t want to call it a library. We really want to call it more of a community center. We want people that are non library users now wanting to come to this building and participate in what we’re doing.”
David Thompson, Executive Director of Leisure Services, City of Foley
The building’s interior design is nearly firmed up, but the exterior design is still being conceptualized. The City of Foley wants to create a design that fits within its historic surroundings and pays tribute to the architectural styles of the library’s century-old heritage.
Mills Community Park coming to Foley
The City of Foley also has plans for a new outdoor area. According to OBA News, clearing is now underway at Mills Community Park, a 4-acre plot of land in the Mills community, which was recently annexed by the City.
We can’t wait to see these additions to the charming city of Foley come to life!
