Former Auburn QB Patrick Nix stepping down from coaching duties at Central-Phenix City

Patrick Nix is stepping back from his coaching duties after 13 years as a high school football head coach in Alabama.
The former Auburn quarterback has been at Central-Phenix City for the last six seasons, making six consecutive state semifinal appearances and three Super 7 appearances.
Nix also had stops at Scottsboro and Pinson Valley, where he won a pair of state titles with his son Bo Nix at quarterback.
As a head coach, Nix finished with:
- 131-36 record
- 3 state championships
- 7 region titles
- 31-10 playoff record
The Central-Phenix City football program announced the news on social media Thursday morning saying Nix is stepping down to pursue a career in ministry.
Nix coached 17 first-team all-state players at Central-Phenix City, eight at Pinson Valley and three at Scottsboro. Some of the biggest names to play for Nix include:
- Bo Nix, Denver Broncos QB
- Kool-Aid McKinstry, New Orleans Saints DB
- Tez Johnson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR
- Cam Coleman, former Auburn WR
- Isaia Faga, Alabama DL
- Red Morgan, Alabama DB
During his playing career, Nix served as Auburn’s starting QB for two seasons, leading the Tigers to a 17-5-1 record between 1994-95. He recorded 28 passing touchdowns and nine rushing touchdowns.
Nix went straight into coaching after graduating from Auburn. He made stops on college staffs including Jacksonville State, Samford, Georgia Tech and Miami before taking his first high school head coaching job at Scottsboro.
