Former Auburn star DeWanna Bonner to feature in new ESPN documentary

Former Auburn star and Birmingham native DeWanna Bonner will be one of three players featured in Life in the W. ESPN’s new documentary series is set to premiere July 24.
Bonner shined for four seasons on The Plains before winning two WNBA championships during her 18-year (and counting) career. She is currently in her second stint with the Phoenix Mercury.

Life in the W premieres July 24 on ESPN2
The new six-part docuseries follows Bonner along with two other all-stars A’ja Wilson and Napheesa Collier as they “navigate pivotal moments in their professional and personal lives amid the continued rise of women’s sports.”
“Through exclusive behind-the-scenes access, Life In The W captures the realities of life at the highest level of women’s basketball, offering viewers a front-row seat to the sacrifices, pressures, leadership responsibilities and defining moments that come with being among the game’s elite athletes.”

The documentary hopes to show audiences the intensity of a WNBA season from multiple perspectives. It describes Bonner as a “veteran icon balancing championship aspirations with a legacy already cemented among the sport’s all-time greats.”
All six episodes will be available to stream on ESPN’s app on July 24. It will also air on ESPN2 on the following days:
- Friday, July 24, 9PM: Episodes 1-2
- Saturday, July 25, 4PM: Episodes 1-4
- Sunday, July 26, 4PM: Episodes 1-6
Who is Auburn legend DeWanna Bonner?

Bonner went to Fairfield High School and was a McDonald’s All-American in 2005 before signing with Auburn.
During her four seasons with the Tigers, Bonner’s accomplishments included:
- SEC Player of the Year (2009)
- 2nd Team All-American (2009)
- 3x First-Team All-SEC
- Auburn’s all-time leading scorer
The Tigers won 85 games across Bonner’s four seasons including a 30-win season in 2009, rising as high as No. 3 in the Associated Press rankings.
In 2024, Bonner became the fifth player to have her number retired by the Auburn women’s basketball program.
Since starting her professional career, Bonner has:
- 2 WNBA titles (2009, 2014)
- 1st Team All-WNBA (2015)
- 6x WNBA All-Star (most recently 2024)
