Alabama’s Miss America legacy
Stockard’s win is a moment of pride for the entire state but the 22-year-old Auburn cheerleader is actually the fourth Miss Alabama to win the title of Miss America, following:
- Yolande Betbeze (1951)
- Heather Whitestone (1995)
- Deidre Downs (2005)
Stockard was awarded a $50,000 scholarship prize for her win, which included an evening gown, talent, fitness and “hot topics” segments. In the latter, Stockard spoke on unemployment, talking about how the state and the country can continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
