Gadsden library introduces 2 new book vending machines in community
Reading time: 2 minutes

The Gadsden Public Library is extending its reach in the city by installing two new book vending machines at different community centers.
The “LibCabinets” allow anyone with a library card to check out books + movies without having to visit the library’s main building.
The new machines have been installed at:
- Carver Community Center | 1030 Tuscaloosa Avenue
- East Gadsden Community Center | 921 Wilson Avenue
“Libraries are changing and evolving. You’ve got to reach the new generation in a different way, and reading makes a difference… It’s good to see Gadsden on the cutting edge.”
Craig Ford, Gadsden mayor

The city hopes the simplified process provided by the machines will encourage more people to use the library.
“This innovative library vending machine brings books and movies directly into the community, effectively creating a new branch of the library.”
Craig Scott, Gadsden Public Library Director
To check something out, you will need to scan your library card at the machine. Then, you can open the door, select a book and closes the door. It’s that simple.
The machine will then do a quick inventory and print a receipt with a due date.
Books can be returned to either cabinet or to the main library branch downtown. Plus, books checked out from the main branch can be returned to either cabinet.
The machines include books for adults, teens and children, as well as movies.
There are also early plans to expand the project in the future.
“Our goal is to continue to put these out in the community. We love our library and our library staff, and we want to thank them for all the work they do.”
Craig Ford, Gadsden mayor
