Garden & Gun Magazine understands the South has some of the best food and chefs. Even more, they understand how a tasty restaurant can convince us to pack our bags to grab a bite. By looking at restaurants located in the South or with chefs from the South, the magazine compiled a list of 25 restaurants worth the drive. Two Alabama restaurants—Chez Fonfon and The Hummingbird Way—are making our state proud by being featured on the list.

Alabama native Frank Stitt brought back the flavors and techniques he learned about while living in the South of France to Birmingham at his restaurant, Chez Fonfon. This isn’t the first recognition that this French bistro has received. With awards like the James Beard Foundation’s “Who’s Who of Food and Beverage in America” and the best burger in Alabama, you know this Birmingham restaurant will make you say “oh là là.” Of course, the burger is a must-try, but also be sure you try some of their French classics, including a croque monsieur and pâté.

You may recognize The Hummingbird Way’s chef—Jim Smith was a top ten contestant on the 2016 season of Top Chef. His oyster bar is giving Southern classics a new look by using local, fresh produce and seafood. The Mobile restaurant is providing a high-class dining experience with the option of a five-course tasting menu. There are some tasty dishes on their regular menu as well, including fried oysters and seafood jambalaya.
