11 plant sales across Alabama in April—including native plants
It’s finally springtime and warm weather (that sticks around) is right around the corner. You know what that means—it’s time to buy some plants. Luckily, there are plenty of plant sales taking place across the state, and many of them include plants that are native to Alabama! Read on to find out where you can get your bloom on.
1. Ruffner Mountain—Sat. April 2-Sun. April 3
- Where: Online at https://ruffnermountain.org/ during the sale dates.
- When: Ruffner Mountain Members’ Pre-Sale on Friday, April 1st | Public Sale Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3
- Event details: Shop a selection of native Alabama plants online. Order early in the sale for the best selection and availability.

2. George Wood Chapter, Alabama Wildflower Society—Sat. April 2
- Where: Kentuck Arts Center Courtyard—503 Main Ave, Northport, AL 35476
- When: Saturday, April 2 from 8AM-2PM
- Event details: Arrive early for the best selection. Primarily native plants to be sold.
3. Lee County Master Gardeners—Sat. April 2
- Where: The parking lot at the southwest corner of E. Glenn Ave. and E. University Dr., Auburn, AL 36830.
- When: Saturday, April 2 from 8AM-Noon
- Event details: Native Azaleas will be available in 3-gal. and 1-gal. sizes for $24 and $12, respectively. A good variety of species and varieties of native azaleas will be available, representing a range of bloom times and colors. The plants will be arranged by blooming season and color. Plants sell out fast, so arrive early for the best selection.

4. Baldwin County Master Gardeners—Thurs. April 7-Sat. April 9
- Where: 11300 U.S. Hwy 98, Fairhope, AL 36532—across from Weeks Bay Reserve
- When: Thursday, April 7-Saturday, April 9 from 9AM-4PM
- Event details: Proceeds from the plant sale will benefit the BCMG Scholarship Fund and community outreach programs. Plant sale will include Mobile County Master Gardeners selling caladium bulbs, South Alabama Land Trust (SALT) selling bird boxes and the Montrose, AL Garden Club selling small bags of potash and books they have published.

5. Birmingham Botanical Gardens—Sat. April 9
- Where: 2612 Lane Park Road, Birmingham, AL 35223
- When: Member Priority Sale on Friday, April 8 from 10AM-5:30 PM | Public Sale on Saturday, April 9 from 9AM-2PM
- Event details: Shop hundreds of plant varieties, including natives, specially selected for our region by the Friends’ volunteer growing groups. Plant list available here.

6. Huntsville Botanical Gardens—Fri. April 15-Sat. April 16 + Fri. April 22-Sat. April 23

- When: Members-Only Pre-Sale on Thursday, April 14 from 8AM-4PM, Public Sale on Friday, April 15-Sunday, April 16 and Friday, April 22-Saturday, April 23 from 8AM-4PM
- Event details: Taking place around the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, the event will include plant professionals to answer your questions, free soil testing, specialty vendors, a silent auction, live music, food trucks, kid’s activities and more.

7. Davis Arboretum—Sat. April 16th
- Where: Davis Arboretum—181 Garden Dr., Auburn AL 36849
- When: Saturday, April 16th from 8AM-2PM
- Event details: Annual plant sale featuring Auburn Series Azaleas, native shrubs, trees, vines and perennials. The sale is part of the Auburn Azalea Festival that will feature fun outreach programs from the Auburn University Museum of Natural History, the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, live music, food trucks, and arts & crafts. Arrive early for the best selection.

8. Chilton County Master Gardeners—Fri. April 15-Sat. April 16

- When: Friday, April 15th from Noon-4PM and Saturday, April 16 from 8AM-until sold out
- Event details: Raincheck dates are April 22-23. Includes some native plants.

9. Master Gardeners of North Alabama—Fri. April 22-Sat. April 23
- Where: Alabama A&M Agribition Center—4925 Moores Mill Rd., Huntsville, AL.
- When: Friday, April 22-Saturday, April 23 from 8AM-2PM
- Event details: Includes native plants. Master Gardeners from Huntsville and Madison County propagate plants all year for this sale. Proceeds from the sale go back to the community through MGNA projects supporting the Alabama Extension Office.

- Event details: Includes some native plants. Volunteers and gardeners will be on hand to help with selections and to give advice about placement, care and maintenance. Aldridge Gardens members get 10% off all purchases with their membership card.
