Who doesn’t love a great thrift store trip? Whether for practicality or the thrill of the chase, it’s pretty across-the-board that thrift stores and antique malls are beyond exciting. We know that it can be hard to find a thrift store that consistently has a great selection of unique clothes, knick-knacks, and home goods, so we went and found four great thrift stores in Mobile that you can totally get lost in for an afternoon.

1. America’s Thrift Stores

If you’re looking for the perfect traditional thrifting experience, America’s Thrift Stores, off of Three-Knotch Road, is precisely the place for you! This huge warehouse has all the goodies you’d expect to find at a thrift store—aisles and aisles of name-brand clothing, an awesome selection of home decor, and even a separate room full of furniture!

I have never once gone to America’s Thrift and left empty-handed. There’s always going to be something awesome!

2. Penelope’s Closet

Penelope’s Closet is another awesome thrift store, this time closer to the University of South Alabama. Part of what makes this thrifting experience so unique is the charity that runs Penelope’s Closet, Penelope House. Penelope House is a women’s and children’s shelter in Mobile that helps victims of domestic abuse. So, while you’re thrifting, you’re actively helping out the community. It doesn’t get any better than that!

Penelope’s Closet also has a mural that stretches across most of the building, making it impossible to miss. Check out their awesome selection of both donated and consignment goods Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

  • Address: 2907 Old Shell Rd, Mobile, AL 36607

  • Hours: Tues – Sat, 10 a.m. — 4 p.m.

3. Waterfront Rescue Mission Thrift Store

Waterfront is one of my personal favorites for home decorations for one reason and one reason alone: they conduct furniture pick-ups around the Mobile area. Basically, the thrift store will take trips around town every so often on designated days and pick up furniture that people have donated. All of this is to say that Waterfront always has the best furniture and home goods selection because they go get it from the community. For example, two of the chairs in my living room are from Waterfront Mission because they were just so cute (and under $50!).

They also have an awesome and huge selection of clothes, shoes, framed photos, and books. Definitely worth checking out next time you want to go thrifting in Mobile!

4. White House Antiques

Okay, so we saved the most photogenic for last! White House Antiques is this fabulous little antique mall nestled inconspicuously on Airport Boulevard. You might even drive right past it if you’re not careful, but it’s worth the U-Turn to see all the amazing antique booths inside. Don’t let the size of the storefront fool you, either; this place is HUGE! They’ve got booths on booths of fabulous vintage items and antiques. We found a near-perfect condition Crosley standing record player right next to some vintage diaper pins. You can really find anything in here.

White House is the perfect place for gift-buying. Who wants all those basic gifts from big-box stores anyway? Head over to White House Antiques instead and find something even better—like a set of vintage apothecary bottles, for instance.

  • Address: 7163 Airport Blvd, Mobile, AL 36608
  • Contact: Facebook | Website
  • Hours: Tues-Sat, 10 a.m.—5 p.m.; Closed Sunday and Monday

No matter which of these thrifty options you choose, you’ll have a great time. So get out there and check out some of these awesome thrift stores in the Mobile area!
