Gorgas Library renovations at UA + 11 more new high-dollar building permits

This past week, 12 new building permits were issued across the state for construction projects exceeding $1 million. These included projects in Gadsden, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa and Opelika.

Among the priciest of these permits was a $16 million permit for renovations to the University of Alabama’s Gorgas Library.

A $16 million building permit was issued to JT Harrison Construction for Phase II of the renovation project at Gorgas Library. The project will consist of partial renovations to floor one, and complete renovations to floors five, six and seven, totaling approximately 61,880 gross square feet.

Other facets of the project include:

  • Renovations to the first floor for a new Digital Scholarship Zone
  • Graduate and Faculty Commons on the sixth floor
  • 5th floor upgrades to accommodate library staff
  • The sprinkler system will be extended and installed throughout the renovated portions of this phase to meets current code requirements.
