GOT SELFIES? Alabama Mural Trail launches free statewide digital passport program
Reading time: 2 minutes
Love discovering murals and taking selfies in front of them? The Alabama Mural Trail’s new digital passport project is for you.
Created by the University of Alabama Center for Economic Development (UACED) in partnership with several state tourism and economic development organizations, the Alabama Mural Trail has over 300 murals in 60 counties statewide to choose from.
How to get a mural passport
Here is how the digital passport works.
First, visit the Alabama Mural Trail Passport webpage. Then sign up online for a free digital passport, which is sent via text message and email — no app to download.
Then travelers simply turn on their location services while visiting a mural on the trail to check in. Travelers also can snap a picture in front of the mural, tag @alabamatourist on Facebook and Instagram, and use #SweetHomeMurals.
Earn prizes via Alabama Mural Trail passport
Through the new passport, travelers can earn points to exchange for prizes by visiting a selection of murals on the trail. Pick-up locations for prizes can be found on the Alabama Mural Trail website.
Locations include:
- Birmingham Downtown Visitor’s Center
- Black Belt Adventures
- Crenshaw County Economic & Industrial Development Authority
- Gulf Shores Welcome Center
- Monroe Chamber of Commerce
- Visit North Alabama
- Orange Beach Welcome Center
- Sumter County Chamber of Commerce / Land Hall
- The St. James Hotel
- Tourism Council of Bullock County
- Visit Mobile Welcome Center
- Visit Tuscaloosa – Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports Visitor Center
“The digital passport will drive people to visit new neighborhoods and cities they might not have wandered before. We want to encourage people to stay longer and travel further.”
~ Candace Johnson, UACED’s director of tourism and community development
Add to the Alabama Mural Trail
