Gov. Ivey awards $1.7M to low-income areas in Alabama

Gov. Kay Ivey recently awarded $1.7 million for organizations that assist low-income Alabamians achieve economic self-sufficiency, according to the Alabama Daily News. Read on to see which areas around the state this will impact.

$1.7M for low-income assistance programs in Alabama

Awarded by the Community Services Block Grants, the funds will be distributed to 18 community action organizations that assist citizens all across Alabama.

In the release from Alabama Daily News, Gov. Ivey expressed how this will help these organizations in their efforts to provide economic support.

“Sometimes people need a helping hand to lift themselves up when they are going through hard times.

These agencies provide emergency assistance for immediate needs but also help put people on a path toward lasting success. I am pleased to award these grants to support these worthwhile programs.”

The community action organizations include assistance in the following areas:

  • Adequate housing securement
  • Budget skill training programs
  • Education assistance
  • Finding employment
  • Food + health services

The 18 agencies awarded funding include:

  • Community Action Agency Inc. of Chambers-Tallapoosa-Coosa: $28,153
  • Community Action Agency of Etowah County Inc.: $35,306
  • Community Action Agency of Northwest Alabama Inc.: $57,519
  • Community Action Agency of Northeast Alabama Inc.: $356,846
  • Community Action Agency of South Alabama: $103,664
  • Community Action Agency of Talladega, Clay, Randolph, Calhoun + Cleburne Counties Inc.: $86,552
  • Community Action Partnership Huntsville/Madison + Limestone Counties Inc.: $115,163
  • Community Action Partnership of Middle Alabama Inc.: $84,003
  • Community Action Partnership of North Alabama Inc.: $92,492
  • Community Service Programs of West Alabama Inc.: $153,244
  • Macon-Russell Community Action Agency Inc.: $35,410
  • Mobile Community Action Inc.: $163,640
  • Montgomery Community Action Committee and Community Development Corporation Inc.: $89,412
  • Organized Community Action Program Inc.: $72,476
  • Pickens County Community Action Committee + Community Development Corporation Inc.: $9,910

The grants will be administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs and were made available by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
