Gulf Shores International Airport celebrated its first commercial flights on Wednesday with Allegiant Airlines

“After years of working toward this goal, seeing the first commercial flight touch down is incredibly exciting. Residents will have more convenient travel options, and visitors will find it easier than ever to reach Alabama’s beaches to experience our local businesses, restaurants, and everything that makes this place special.”

Mayor Robert Craft, Gulf Shores

In addition to the first day celebration activities, which included a ribbon-cutting and ceremonial water cannon salute, Allegiant Airlines announced they are adding two nonstop services to Appleton, Wisconsin and Des Moines, Iowa.

Previously announced destinations include:

  • Knoxville
  • Cincinnati
  • Houston
  • Bentonville/Fayetteville
  • Belleville/St. Louis
  • Kansas City

With the addition of the two routes, the Gulf Shores International Airport now has the third most routes in Alabama, according to the City of Gulf Shores social media post. For more information about Gulf Shores International Airport, visit flyGUF.com.
