This year’s premier baseball video game comes out in less than two weeks and a familiar face is on the cover of this year’s game.

Gunnar Henderson, who was named Mr. Baseball in Alabama in 2019, has been in the spotlight several times already in his young career. Now, he’s one of three players to grace the cover of MLB The Show 25.

Henderson is the second former Alabama Independent Schools Association (AISA) player to be on the cover of the video game, following in the footsteps of Josh Donaldson who was on the cover of MLB The Show 16.

Gunnar Henderson was born in Montgomery and grew up in Selma, attending a private high school and playing in the AISA.

Henderson was committed to play for Auburn at the college level but the Orioles drafted him straight out of high school in the 2nd round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He would make his debut in August 2022, hitting a home run in his first game.

During the 2024 season, Henderson recorded career highs in home runs (37), hits (177), batting average (.281) and stolen bases (21). In just three years in the MLB, Henderson’s accolades have included:

  • 2024 Home Run Derby appearance
  • 2024 All-Star
  • 2023 Rookie of the Year
  • 4th place in 2024 MVP voting
