Filming in Alabama is on a Roll

The film industry in Alabama is on a roll. Earlier this month, a movie called The Shift was filmed at multiple locations in and around Birmingham. Last week, the production of Gunner,  an action thriller featuring Oscar winner Morgan Freeman and Westworld’s  Luke Hemsworth was announced.  It will also be filmed in the Birmingham area.

In addition to the two movie productions, The Hulu mini-series Love Fairhope, also returned the Eastern Shore this month to capture on film Mardi Gras.

β€œProductions like Gunner and The Shift, which is currently filming in Birmingham, generate a great deal of attention for an area, but it’s more important to recognize the impact it has on the city’s economy,” Brian Jones from the Alabama Film Office told The Bama Buzz.

β€œHiring local people for crew, renting equipment, filling area hotel rooms and restaurants, is all money that goes directly into Birmingham’s economy.”
