As Hurricane Milton wreaks havoc across Florida, Alabama first responders have geared up and landed at the coast to assist in relief efforts.

Read on to learn how statewide organizations are contributing to the relief effort. Plus, find out how you can help.

Hurricane Milton has devastated the Florida coast

A day after Hurricane Milton tore through coastal communities and unleashed a series of disastrous storms, it has left the state of Florida devastated– claiming at least five lives and leaving 3 million people without power.

Just yesterday, the Category 5 storm tore the roof off of Tropicana Field, the home of the Tampa Bay Rays and a site of refuge for first responders and cleanup crews.

This devastation comes only days after the wreckage caused by Hurricane Helene.

Alabama responds

On Wednesday, members of Alabama’s Task Force 1’s Urban Search and Rescue Team deployed to Florida. The team was sent with water rescue assets, gear, supplies and other tools, according to the most recent City of Mobile newsletter.

The newsletter also included a comment from Mayor Stimpson in response to the crisis.

“Seeing our first responders standing with communities in crisis is incredibly inspiring. I know that they are trained and prepared to do whatever they can to save lives and help the people of Florida in the coming days.

Please keep those people in the path of Hurricane Milton in your prayers, and pray for the safety of AL-TF1 and the thousands of others from around the country who are standing by to help.”

Sandy Stimpson, Mayor, City of Mobile
