History of Payne’s

Before it became a sandwich shop, Payne’s Sandwich Shop and Soda Fountain started as a drug store. The establishment quickly became a cornerstone of the community, providing essential goods and services.

In 1891, the pharmacy moved to its Victorian-era building on the courthouse square, where it became a gathering place for townsfolk, and it’s still located there today.

The original architecture has been preserved, giving visitors a glimpse into the past while enjoying modern comforts.

In 1991, Owners Lisa Garett and Jessica Walton revived the soda fountain shop after the pharmacy closed.

The resurgence of Payne’s was marked by a commitment to preserve the traditional methods of food preparation while also innovating to meet modern tastes. This balance of old and new ensures that while diners can indulge in nostalgic favorites, they can also explore creative new dishes that reflect changing culinary trends.

Their main focus was to restore the soda fountain’s legacy, adding their unique flair while honoring the historical significance of the location. The decor reflects a vintage aesthetic that transports diners back in time.
