Cities across America celebrate the chilly weather with ice skating, even in the snow-less Alabama. The concept of bringing an ice rink to a town isn’t new, but what about ice bumper cars?

This year, the City of Gadsden has partnered with Ice Bumper Cars International, a company specializing in the unique vehicles in Colorado, to bring this new activity to Christmas on the Coosa.

The city originally considered renting the cars, but after they learned purchasing them wasn’t much more expensive, they decided to buy 12 bumper cars to guarantee years of fun.

Christmas on the Coosa started two years ago, Mayor Craig Ford said, and the city’s goal is to improve it as much as possible each year.

“With yearly improvements to Christmas at the Falls and Christmas on the Coosa, we’re always looking for ways for people to have holiday fun in Gadsden.”

Bumper cars will be available from Nov. 1 until Thanksgiving — at that point, the ice rink will transition to ice skating only.

“Some people may not want to get out there and skate, but everyone can have fun on these bumper cars.”

Mayor Craig Ford

Christmas on the Coosa has more to offer beyond the ice. Plan to enjoy their food and drink vendors, fire pits, musical performances and one of the largest city Christmas trees in the entire state of Alabama.
