What to watch for

There are plenty of storylines to keep an eye on throughout the week.

In flag football, three of the four teams playing in the two championship games are nationally ranked including top-ranked Central-Phenix City, who also won the state title last season. The Red Devils will take on #15 Spain Park. Moody is ranked #22.

Central is also hoping to win back-to-back titles in football, facing off against Thompson in the 7A championship game for the fifth time in the last seven years.

Catholic-Montgomery (5A) is the only other team looking to defend its championship from a year ago.

Class 6A is the only classification to pit the top two-ranked teams in the final ASWA poll against each other in the state title game with #1 Saraland looking to win its second championship in three seasons. Meanwhile, #2 Parker is looking for its first ever title, making the championship game for the first time since 1980.

Moody (5A) and Tuscaloosa Academy (2A) are both playing in their first ever AHSAA state championship games this week. Houston Academy (3A) and Wadley (1A) are also both chasing a first title, falling short in their previous appearances.
