Alabama coaches Kalen DeBoer and Nate Oats are expected to stick around in Tuscaloosa for several more years, thanks to new contract extensions approved this week.
The University Board of Trustees officially approved both extensions at Wednesday’s meeting.

Nate Oats

Oats’ extension was announced earlier this month shortly after the Tide’s season ended in the Sweet 16 to eventual national champion Michigan.
Alabama has increased the coach’s salary to an average of $7.2 million per year and extended him through the 2031-32 season. The new contract includes a buyout clause of $15 million through next year before dropping to $12 million through March 2028.
“President Mohler, Chancellor Trant, the entire Board of Trustees and our athletics director Greg Byrne have been tremendously supportive and provided us the resources to compete for championships each and every year. We have enjoyed tremendous success during our seven years at Alabama, and we look forward to building on that for many years to come.”

Kalen DeBoer

Kalen DeBoer was a late addition to the “consideration of athletics contracts” on the meeting’s agenda.
After just two seasons, the Crimson Tide coach is getting a raise along with a significant extension.
DeBoer will get a $2 million extension, raising his annual salary to $12.5 million per year. The contract now runs through 2033.
The new deal also includes buyout clauses of:
- $10 million by January 31, 2027
- $8 million by January 31, 2028
- $6 million by January 31, 2029
The Crimson Tide are 20-8 under DeBoer including an appearance in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals and SEC Championship Game last season.
“We are excited about the opportunity to continue our time in Tuscaloosa with this contract extension. This University has become a special place to us, and I look forward to working to ensure that Alabama football remains at the forefront of college football. This program has a long history of success and an unmatched tradition that I was eager to be a part of two years ago, and I cannot wait to keep coaching our guys and bring more championships to Alabama.”
