For the first time in the 105-year history of the AHSAA, the Central Board of Control will have a female president.

Kim Kiel, who has served as vice president the previous two years, was unanimously elected during Wednesday’s meeting in Montgomery. She has also previously served as interim president for a meeting earlier this year.

Kiel has been at Pelham since 1999 when she started as the girls’ basketball coach. Other roles for the Panthers have included:

  • Volleyball head coach
  • Athletic Director
  • Principal
  • Assistant Superintendent

In 2018, Kiel was named the Athletic Director of the Year by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association (AHSADCA). She has received Coach of the Year and Principal of the Year honors and was selected to the Pelham High School Hall of Fame in 2024.
