Back in January, legendary hamburger joint Krystal opened their first location in six years in the town of Center Point, Alabama

A “New Day” for Krystal

The establishment of the new smaller and more stylish Krystal prototype, outside of Birmingham, was described as a “new day” by  Thomas Stager, the President of Krystal Restaurants.

Ten months later, Krystal—a Southern mainstay since 1932—is making more noise nationally about reviving its brand and Alabama is leading the way.

This week in QSR Magazine, Tom Petska, Vice President of Franchise Sales, was quoted in a story about the venerable company’s comeback plans. He let the cat out of the bag, announcing their intention  to open up more restaurants in “Krystal strongholds like Birmingham, Mobile and Montgomery.”

Fantastic news for Krystal fans

If you are a fan of Krystal and its thin square hamburger patty on a steamed bun, this is fantastic news.

The company is emerging from Chapter 11 Bankruptcy that it had filed in early 2020. The chain went from 368 restaurants to 281 today.

Presently, there are 8 Krystal locations in the Birmingham metro area and the 21 statewide.

The new Center Point store model is 20% smaller than the traditional Krystal and designed for ready to go orders with double-lane pickup, walk-up window and pickup area for online orders and 3rd party delivery.
