Repairs are set to begin on a major roadway in Mobile County this weekend with lane closures expected over the next two weeks.

The Delta Bridge, also known as the Dolly Parton Bridge, carries Interstate 65 travelers across the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta. But traffic may be moving a little bit slower for those crossing the bridge during September.

Lane closures will happen as the Alabama Department of Transportation crews work to replace bridge joints within the arch span on the northbound bridge to help meet the state’s architectural standards.

The lane closure schedule is staggered so one lane will remain open at all times.

  • Northbound left lane: Closed continuously from Sunday, Sept. 7, at 9 p.m. until Friday, Sept. 12, at 5 a.m.
  • Northbound right lane: Closed continuously from Sunday, Sept. 14, at 9 p.m. until Friday, Sept. 19, at 5 a.m.

There will be no active permits for loads greater than 12 feet wide during the project.

McInnis Construction LLC will perform the work on behalf of the Alabama Department of Transportation. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and expect possible delays.

ALDOT reminds everyone to reduce speed and stay alert when approaching and traveling through the Delta Bridge during these closures.
