Months after surviving a horrific shark attack, Mountain Brook teen Lulu Gribbin posted a video showing that she’s not scared to go back into the ocean.

Following Gribbin’s attack in June in Florida, community support from Mountain Brook and the rest of Alabama came pouring in and supporters were relieved to see Gribbin survive and recover from the attack, which resulted in the loss of a hand and a leg. In the months since her recover, Gribbin’s family have posted videos of her that have inspired the community and the latest is perhaps the most remarkable yet.

Despite her attack, Gribbin got back on the surfboard in an incredible display of courage and resilience.

Lulu’s big week continued when her family’s Instagram account revealed she had attended a Taylor Swift concert in Indianapolis where they sat with Swift’s mother during the show.

Gribbin’s story immediately captured the attention of her hometown as well as many others across Alabama and the rest of the country. Local businesses around Mountain Brook and the Birmingham area displayed purple ribbons showing their support of Gribbon while local lawmakers pushed for “Lulu’s Law”, a piece of legislation allowing for alerts to be sent out for shark attacks.

Once Gribbin’s recovery was apparent, the city of Mountain Brook celebrated her with a parade in her honor.
