Meet Dr. Peter J. Mohler: The new President of The University of Alabama

The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees has unanimously appointed Peter J. Mohler, PhD, the 30th President of The University of Alabama.
A prominent researcher and adminstrator, Mohler currently serves as executive vice president for research, innovation and knowledge at Ohio State University and chief scientific officer of OSU’s Wexner Medical Center.
In 2023, he served successfully served OSU as interim President.

Proven leader in research development

Under Mohler’s leadership, Ohio State has risen in national research rankings, and research and development expenditures have increased by around $600 million annually – topping $1.5 billion.
In addition to securing funding, he is a nationally recognized researcher authoring more than 275 peer-reviewed publications.
His academic background includes:
- Doctorate in cell and molecular physiology at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
- Postdoctoral fellowship in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at Duke University
- Faculty at Vanderbilt University and later the University of Iowa

Mohler replaces Dr. Stuart Bell, who served a decade as President. He will assume the role on July 21.
