Meet Ozzi: New baby giraffe debuts at Montgomery Zoo [PHOTOS]

There’s a new face (and neck) to see at the Montgomery Zoo.
Ozzi, a female giraffe calf born on Aug. 3, has officially made its debut at the zoo in our capital city. Standing six feet tall at birth, she has become closely bonded with her mother, Ashley, while adjusting to life at the zoo.
The zoo says JJ, Ozzi’s father, has shown enthusiastic interest in his new role as a dad. But while his excitement is heartwarming, the Zoo’s animal care team is prioritizing safety and welfare by keeping JJ separate from Ashley and Ozzi for now.
“Ozzi is growing quickly and showing off her playful personality. She’s definitely JJ’s daughter. One hundred percent clumsy, goofy, and absolutely adorable.”

The trio remains in close visual contact, allowing them to maintain social bonds while ensuring a calm and secure environment for the calf.
To support the family’s needs, the Zoo is rotating outdoor time between JJ in the mornings and Ozzi and Ashley in the afternoons. This flexible schedule helps each giraffe thrive while giving guests a chance to meet the newest member of the herd.
The Giraffe Encounter is currently open during JJ’s outings, and the Zoo hopes to welcome guests to meet Ashley and Ozzi up close in the near future.
The giraffe schedule is subject to change based on animal welfare needs. The zoo encourages people to call for daily updates prior to visiting.
