Every year, the U.S. Department of Education honors schools that go the extra mile for their students by handing out National Blue Ribbon Schools awards.
This year, five Alabama schools made the list of over 300 honored. Keep reading for the full list of Alabama schools given the top honor and find out why they were chosen.
EPIC Alternative Elementary School | Birmingham
EPIC Alternative School sees educating young minds as planting seeds for our future. That’s why an indoor botanical garden is central to the school’s design.
EPIC is a Title 1 magnet school. They specialize in exhaustive education—so while test scores are important, educators at EPIC strive for excellence in extracurriculars like band and cheerleading.

East Elementary School | Cullman

Carver School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology | Dothan
Carver School is an A-rated magnet program based in the Wiregrass. The school offers a hands-on approach to learning through projects like raising chickens from eggs to learn about embryology and life cycles.
