Miles, West Alabama selected for D-II playoffs + both to host first round

There are two in-state teams who will be battling for the NCAA Division II National Championship on the gridiron.
Miles and West Alabama both earned spots in the field of 24 teams, both in the same region with a potential quarterfinal matchup between the two teams possible.

West Alabama Tigers
West Alabama was confident it would hear its name during Sunday’s selection show as it wrapped up the regular season with a 9-1 record, ranked #14 in the last Division II poll of the year.
The Tigers have not been in the postseason since 2018 but they finished the regular season on a four-game winning streak to do enough to not only clinch a playoff berth, but also secure another home game. Here’s what you need to know:

Miles Golden Bears
For the first time since 2019, Miles is back in the Division II playoff. And for the first time ever, it will get to host a first-round game.
The Golden Bears are riding a nine-game winning streak after dropping their first two games of the season—a 1-point loss to West Alabama and a loss to Division I Alabama State. Over its winning streak, Miles has outscored its opponents by 19.4 points per game.
