It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for. Major League Baseball has finally given us a glimpse of how the ticketing process will work for the 2024 MLB at Rickwood Field: A Tribute to the Negro Leagues game.

And it is great news for those living in the state of Alabama! Here’s what you need to know:

How the lottery will work

Registration is officially open for Alabama residents and runs through April 30. You have to go to the league’s website and provide your name and address which must include an Alabama zip code.

Once you are registered, your name will be involved in a random drawing done by MLB. That drawing will be used to select which people will have the opportunity to purchase two tickets. Here’s how MLB describes it:

“Major League Baseball will conduct a random drawing from among the pool of eligible registrations received during the Registration Period to determine the selected registrants, who will have the opportunity, subject to availability, to purchase one (1) 2024 MLB at Rickwood Game Ticket Strip, which consists of two (2) tickets (“Ticket Strip”). Tickets for the 2024 MLB at Rickwood Game will be sold in connection with this 2024 MLB at Rickwood Game Ticket Strip Purchase Opportunity.”

The exact dates, times and instructions for buying tickets will be communicated to those selected at a later date. However, MLB did release a rough draft schedule with these events happening on or around each date:

  • May 1: Random drawing
  • May 3: Those selected will be notified
  • May 6: Those selected can begin buying tickets

There are no ticket prices listed for the MLB game yet.

In-state minor league matchup set as Rickwood’s opener

Minor league baseball has been the biggest draw at Rickwood for several years now, including the (formerly) annual Rickwood Classic. That game returns this year for the first time in five years with two in-state teams set to square off.

  • Who: Birmingham Barons vs. Montgomery Biscuits
  • When: Tuesday, June 18, 2024, 6PM
  • Where: Rickwood Field

Buying tickets to the minor league game may be a little easier for local fans but you should still expect them to sell out pretty quickly. Season ticket holders for both teams can begin buying tickets Wednesday for the Rickwood game. Here’s the full schedule of when you can buy tickets for the minor league game:

  • April 17: Season ticket holders
  • April 23: Alabama residents
  • April 26: General public

“Ticket prices start at $30 per ticket for seats in the outfield and range to $100 for seating behind home plate. All ticket purchases must adhere to an eight (8) ticket limit per order. Ticket prices are subject to change.”
