Reading time: 2 minutes

If you’ve never taken a boat tour around the Mobile Harbor, this spring may be the best time to make the voyage.
The SS United States recently arrived in Mobile Bay but before the historic ship gets safely sunk off the Gulf Coast, it will be on display for those curious to see it up close.
The Mobile Harbor tours from Blakeley State Park will feature a closer look at the ship with 11 dates open to the public, starting March 14.
Mobile Harbor tours
The two-hour journey through the busy Port of Mobile will introduce guests to the incredible modern facilities and rich history of the city’s harbor.
Along the way, you will get a unique chance to get a close view of the SS United States, which is considered the fastest ocean liner to ever cross the Atlantic + the largest passenger ship ever built entirely in this country.
The decommissioned 1950s liner has undertaken work in a drydock facility as preparations are made for it to be sunk in the Gulf as an artificial reef. The cruise will include an educational experience with plenty of stories about the ship to be told throughout the tour.
Tickets will be $36 to $39 for adults and $26 to $29 for kids, depending on date and time of your tour.
The available times include:
- March 14: 10AM and 12:30PM
- March 17: 1:30PM
- March 27 + 28: 10AM
- March 29: 3:30PM
- March 30: 10:00AM, 12:30PM and 3PM

- April 13: 10AM and 12:30PM
- May 10: 10AM and 1PM
Tours will take approximately two hours. You can book your spot on the Blakeley State Park website.
The SS United States will now be prepared for its final use as the world’s largest artificial reef off the coast of Destin-Fort Walton. Those preparations include ensuring the vessel will not harm sea life and will lay to rest upright.
