Architectural Digest, a popular design magazine that’s been around for over 100 years, just named the Top Hidden Gem Cities for Snowbirds—and Alabama made several appearances on the list. Here’s what you need to know about the spotlight on Mobile, as well as the state’s other top cities for snowbirds.

Mobile got the spotlight

Architectural Digest ranked 75 top cities for this list—”warm places waiting to be discovered by those keen on avoiding the cold and the crowds” (Architectural Digest). The following criteria were used:

  • Housing + lodging availability
  • Yelp ratings for activities + eateries
  • Home sale prices
  • Winter weather conditions

In addition, Architectural Digest took into consideration the number of ratings on Yelp to ensure the spots are true hidden gems.

Mobile, Alabama, came in at #10 nationwide, behind the following cities:

  1. New Orleans, LA
  2. Naples, FL
  3. Honululu, HI
  4. Palm Springs, CA
  5. Gilbert, AZ
  6. Sedona, AZ
  7. Baton Rouge, LA
  8. Yuma, AZ
  9. Corpus Christi, TX

Architectural Digest also ranked cities in several different categories related to their snowbird-friendliness. In the “Percentage of total walking trails with high ratings and low traffic on AllTrails” category, Mobile can in at #1.
