Mobile to hold household hazardous waste and scrap tire collection events in December

The City of Mobile is helping residents get a jump on their holiday cleaning by holding a Household Hazardous Waste Collection and Scrap Tire Amnesty Day in December.

Here are the details.

Mobile’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection – Dec. 2

On Saturday, December 2, between 9AM to 1:00PM at James Seals Jr. Park (540 Texas Street), City of Mobile residents are provided an opportunity to safely and responsibly discard items that aren’t accepted by routine trash and garbage collection services.

Items that are accepted include:

  • Automotive fluids
  • Aerosols,
  • Batteries
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Paint
  • Cleaners
  • Pesticides
  • Herbicides
  • Fertilizers

Items NOT accepted — tires, explosives, firearms, electronics, pharmaceuticals, medical waste and appliances.

This free event is open to Mobile residents and individuals only. Contractors and businesses will not be allowed to participate, and participants will be asked to verify the zip code of their home address.

Any resident is welcome to drop off approved items at any point during the event on Dec. 2. For additional information about the event, please contact the City of Mobile’s Environmental Services Department at (251) 208-7151.

Mobile Scrap Tire Amnesty Day – Dec. 9

The following week, on Saturday, December 9, 8AM to 11AM, the City of Mobile and its non-profit partners will host a Scrap Tire Amnesty Day to give Mobilians an easy way to dispose of old and unwanted tires at no cost.   

Volunteers from Osprey Initiative and the Student Conservation Association, Inc. will work alongside City of Mobile employees to collect scrap tires at three drop-off locations. 

City of Mobile residents can bring four tires per person to any drop-off location free of charge. 

Below are the drop-off locations:

  • Baumhauer-Randle Park — 1909 Duval St., Mobile, AL 36606
  • Medal of Honor Park — 1711 Hillcrest Rd., Mobile, AL 36609
  • City of Mobile Recycling Center— 4851 Museum Dr., Mobile, AL 36608

The Mobile County Commission is also hosting a event on Saturday, Dec. 9, in Irvington that will allow you to drop off unwanted scrap tires
