More than 8 million pounds of produce donated by Publix to Alabama food banks

Florida-based supermarket chain Publix recently announced its has reached a milestone in its partnership with Feeding America. The popular grocery store has now donated more than 100 million pounds of produce to local food banks across the region.
More than 8 million pounds of that produce has been donated to four food banks across the state including:
- Community Food Bank of Central Alabama in Birmingham
- Feeding the Gulf Coast in Theodore
- Food Bank of North Alabama in Huntsville
- Heart of Alabama Food Bank in Montgomery

Donations in Alabama
Food banks from four of the state’s largest metro areas have received donations from Publix. The ones in Birmingham and Huntsville began in 2020 with the Heart of Alabama Food Bank in Montgomery starting its partnership in 2021. Feeding the Gulf Coast just began its partnership in 2023.
Since 2020, Publix has donated 8,472,927 pounds of produce to four food banks in Alabama. You can see the full breakdown below.

Alabama is home to 94 Publix stores, ranking the state third in most stores from the company. Florida (885) and Georgia (217) are the only two states ahead of Alabama.
Donations around the southeast
Alabama received the fourth most donations among the eight states listed by Publix. According to a release from the company, it began purchasing produce to help struggling farmers in 2020 then provide additional fresh fruits and vegetables to its food bank partners.
