Morgan Freeman helps screen police candidates in Gulf Shores
Reading time: 2 minutes
Imagine showing up for a job interview and suddenly you hear one of the most famous voices in motion picture history on the interview panel…Morgan Freeman.
Freeman is best known for his work in “Shawshank Redemption,” “Driving Miss Daisy,” and “Million Dollar Baby,” just to name a few.
When Freeman is not busy being a Hollywood star, he is spending time at his residence down in Gulf Shores, Alabama giving back to his community participating in the screening process for new candidates on the Gulf Shores police department. The most recent review board met on January 27, 2023.
A long-time resident of Gulf Shores
You might be wondering, “What is Morgan Freeman doing in Gulf Shores, Alabama?” Well, this Oscar award-winning actor has been a resident of Gulf Shores and spends a good amount of his time down in this small, southern beach town of 15,000.
Gulf Shores Chief of Police is Grateful
“We are grateful to him and any resident that participates on the panel. For Mr. Freemans’ case, this is his way of giving back to the community where he spends a good deal of time”. – Ed Delmore, Chief of Gulf Shores Police Department
Not his first time on the job
According to the Gulf Shores Police Department, this is the second time that he has assisted on the panel helping screen candidates for the department. The first time was back in October of 2021. Celebrity or not, the participation on the panel is a very important role for any resident who chooses to contribute. Chief Delmore reminds us the process to become a Gulf Shores police officer is extensive.
“The process to become a Gulf Shores police officer is arduous. It includes a physical and written test, along with an interview in front of a panel of command level officers and local residents and often includes a command officer from other areas. Once a candidate makes it through all of that, they are subjected to background check, a polygraph, a physiological evaluation and medical evaluation.” – Ed Delmore, Chief of Gulf Shores Police Department
