Nearly $1B allocated for projects at Anniston Army Depot

One of Alabama’s largest military facilities will soon be getting major upgrades.

The Anniston Army Depot in Calhoun County is receiving $949.1 million in federal funds which will go toward multiple on-site projects including:

  • Component Remanufacturing Facility – $495,000,000
  • Small Arms Warehouse – $280,600,000
  • Vehicle Paint Shop – $69,500,000
  • Replacement of Buildings 293, 294, and 295 – $60,000,000
  • Guided Missile Maintenance Building – $44,000,000

The announcement came in a release from Rep. Mike Rogers who said the funding is “critical to ensuring continued success at Anniston Army Depot.” The projects are expected to support modernization efforts and infrastructure improvements at the depot.

Anniston Army Depot

Anniston Army Depot serves as a key facility for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of combat vehicles and weapon systems for the United States Army.

The Depot first opened in 1941 and became known as the “Tank Repair Center.”

Over eight decades later, the facility has a $559 million Operating Budget and is home to:

  • Approximately 3,800 Total Employees
  • 2,600 Depot Employees
  • 2,393 Buildings/Structures
  • 430 Miles Roadway
  • 102 Miles of Fencing
  • 37 Miles of Railroad
