A new streetscape project is set to get started soon in downtown Tuscaloosa, causing some road closures throughout the summer.

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, May 4, redesigning Greensboro Avenue between University Boulevard and 7th Street. The project is expected to be completed by the first home football game on September 5.

The $4.3 million project is funded through Elevate Tuscaloosa. The work is intended to strengthen pedestrian access in the downtown area. It will include:

  • Wider sidewalks
  • Updated landscaping
  • Newly designed streetscaping
  • Dedicated delivery zones
  • Safety improvements

The project will be removing one traffic lane on Greensboro Avenue.

While road closures will begin May 4, pedestrian access to local businesses will remain open.
