NEW: Alabama campground ranks among top 10 places to camp in the nation
We previously reported that Cherokee Rock Village in Leesburg, Alabama ranked as the #1 spot to camp in the Southeast by camping information resource, The Dyrt. We’ve got great news—the outdoorsy publication recently released its list of top spots to camp in the country, and Cherokee Rock Village not only made the list, but cracked the top 10. Read on for details.
Not your average campground
With over 8 million user-generated reviews, photos and tips for every RV site, cabin, glamping and tent camping location in the nation, The Dyrt is the #1 app for camping information and booking.
On July 11, they announced the 2023 Best Places to Camp: Top 10 in the U.S. based on reviews and ratings from its vast community of campers. The list was full of spots with breathtaking views and incredible experiences that set them apart.
“If you ask 10 people their favorite thing about camping, you might get 10 different answers. Whether your favorite campsite is up in the mountains, beside the ocean, in the middle of the desert or close to a big city, they can all offer once-in-a-lifetime experiences and become your favorite memories. Our annual Best Places to Camp list recognizes campgrounds that are truly next level and resonate with a wide variety of people.”
Sarah Smith, founder, The Dyrt
The Dyrt’s 2023 Best Places to Camp: Top 10 in the U.S. are:
- Denali National Park Wonder Lake Campground, Alaska
- Voyageurs National Park, Minnesota
- Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Texas
- Goblin Valley State Park, Utah
- Many Glacier Campground, Montana
- Alabama Hills Recreation Area, California
- Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Backcountry Sites, Michigan
- Cathedral Pines Campground, Maine
- Cherokee Rock Village, Alabama
- Keuka Lake State Park, New York
Alabama made the list
As you can see in the list above, our very own Cherokee Rock Village in Leesburg, Alabama came in at #9 on the top 10 best places to camp in the US. The Dyrt mentions how “Alabama Hills Recreation Area” is the only spot on the list to appear all three years, but contrary to the name, the spot they’re referencing is found in California.
Each campground that made the list was ranked #1 or #2 in The Dyrt’s Best Places to Camp Regional Awards that were announced in May.
“Every day that goes by, The Dyrt community of campers keeps adding more photos, reviews and general information that further clarifies and captures the essence of camping in the United States. Releasing this list each summer is one of our favorite things to do. It’s the culmination of another year of campers generously sharing their knowledge to help other campers optimize their own adventures and make the most of their time in the great outdoors.”
Kevin Long, CEO, The Dyrt
With several hiking trails to explore, including a 4.6-mile loop trail with gorgeous rock formations and valley views, this is a can’t-miss for any outdoor enthusiast.
“A peaceful and secluded setting, Cherokee Rock Village is primitive camping at its finest, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the outdoors. The campsites are located in a wooded area that is an ideal tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.”
