The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs has opened a new facility in Montgomery designed for veterans to get assistance through different programs around the state.
The Alabama Veterans Resource Center (AVRC) officially opened its doors Tuesday and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday.
“This is a one stop shop for our veterans in the state. So many of our veterans that are leaving military service and also our veterans, many of them are not aware of the services are available to them throughout the state of Alabama. The Alabama Veterans Resource Center is an answer to their issues. They come here, they will find the answers they need to get the services they need for their veterans well-being.”
Jeffrey Newton, commissioner of the Department of Veterans Affairs
The new center is located at 102 Dexter Avenue in Montgomery, just five blocks from the state capitol. There are no hours of operation currently posted.
Alabama veterans
According to the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), there are nearly 350,000 veterans living in Alabama. The AVRC was created for them with the goal to “make Alabama the best place in the nation for veterans to live, work and thrive.”
The department wants to connect veterans and their families with resources, tools and programs they have earned from healthcare to education to housing and everything in between.
“Across Alabama, veterans often face a patchwork of services that can be difficult to navigate. The AVRC brings those resources together in one place – both through a physical headquarters in Montgomery and a digital hub accessible across the state. Our goal is to simplify access, remove barriers, and ensure that no Alabama veteran is left behind.”

The AVRC focuses on:

- Education
- Skills development
To honor Alabama’s veterans by ensuring they have easy access to the tools, support, and opportunities needed to build strong and fulfilling lives after service.
AVRC Mission Statement
The Montgomery office is expected to be just the beginning of the AVRC initiative.
The legislation that was signed by Gov. Kay Ivey in 2025 calls for additional satellite offices throughout the state. The DVA says resear h is currently being done to find exactly where those offices should go.
